TOTE MATERIAL

A Tote Bag,as fashionable as it is, can be made of cotton or linen, but through the ages hemp has also been a popular material. Many people confuse canvas itself to be a material, although the term actually refers to the style of the fabric's weave and not the material of the fabric.

The Canvas fabrics are quite widely  used when making Tote Bags due to the material being waterproof. The material is lightweight and holds the ink from prints well without bleeding or flaking of the design.

Canvas materials are environmentally friendly, making these materials a perfect choice for those who are environmentally conscious. A big plus is the reusable nature of canvas Tote Bags further supports the ecosystem by reducing the production of wastes.

There are Tote Bags from the higher end of the Designer spectrum which are made from Leather and they are proving to be ever so popular for the people that demand style.

Throughout the years the Tote Bag has become quite fashionable and is versatile and is easy to use. They are a fashion Designers dream as there are so many types making them easy to brand. Anybody who has a Tote Bag makes a fashion statement.

THE TOTE BAG IS HERE TO STAY

A Tote Bag is primarily a large bag which is suitable for carrying lots of stuff. The Tote Bags were first evident in the 17th Century. The term "tote", which means "to carry", did not become common until the 1900s. In the United States the Tote Bag did not reach popularity until the mid 1940’s. One of the main uses of the Tote Bag was for the carrying of ice. The name of this particular bag was called the ‘Boat Bag’. The Tote Bag grew in popularity in the 1960’s and became a major fashion branded fashion statement.

In the 1960’s a Tote was created by American designer Bonnie Cashin for Coach. Cashin was one of the first to “dress up” this style of bag as her version was cut from leather, and came in a variety of unique, vibrant colors. The elegant “Cashin Carry” cemented the tote not only as a functional daily necessity, but also as a stylish accessory. The bag was big, bold, and beautiful, coming with a modern flair and an easiness to its form and function that many tried (unsuccessfully) to copy.

Cashin was born in Oakland, California. in 1908 to a swirl of creativity: Carl, her father, was a photographer and inventor, while Eunice, her mother, was a dressmaker who opened several custom dress shops throughout Cashin's childhood.

By high school, the family had settled in Hollywood, at which point Cashin was hired as a costume designer by legendary ballet and revue company Fanchon and Marco. In 1934, Cashin moved with the company cross country to New York, but returned to Hollywood 10 years later, this time with a blue-chip 20th Century Fox contract. In just six years, she produced the clothing for roughly 60 films, including 1945's Oscar-winning production of A Tree Grows in Brooklyn.

A Tote Bag is a large and often unfastened bag with parallel handles that emerge from the sides of its pouch. The main purpose of a Tote bag is to serve as an easy carryall, especially during those busy days spent shopping or running errands. Tote Bags can be used for multiple purposes and occasions. They also come in an abundance of varied designs. Whether you buy a couple or make them yourself, thanks to their reusable nature, they will last you for years to come. The Cashin Carry Tote Bags are still in existence to date and have become a great fashion statement.

Tote Bags create a more personalized fashion statement; it is arguably more  than just a purse whether made from canvas or leather the Tote Bag is quite a traditional bag and has lasted a long time due to its commodity to fit into most social functions. Even with the many makeovers throughout the 1960’s to present day it is fair to say that the Tote Bag has stood the test of time and will be here for a long time. Looking forward to seeing how the Tote Bag evolves in the years to come!!
